Clan Maclean Heritage Trust
Current projects
Our present major project is a new publication on The Music of the Clan Maclean, which will have a definitive historical introduction, and a collection of past and present pipe tunes associated with Macleans and the Maclean lands. This is a considerable undertaking, complicated by the difficulty of obtaining permission from numerous copyright-holders to use the material. It is hoped that this volume will be produced in 2010.
The Trust is also producing a CD version of An Historical and Genealogical Account of the Clan Maclean, from its first Settlement at Duart Castle, in the Isle of Mull, to the present period, written by "a Seneachie" [a family chronicler, in this case a nom de plume]. This is the earliest published history of the Clan, dated 1838. It has no index, and the Trust is assembling one.
There are other, longer term, projects in progress and many others being considered. Suggestions from clan members for possible projects are always welcomed, and should be sent to the Secretary.
Another project that is expected to come to fruition shortly is the publication of a book of stories about the Clan Maclean. Entitled 'Tales of the Clan Maclean' and intended for children of all ages, this is a delightful collection of stories written by Fiona Maclean of Ardgour and whimsically illustrated by Brian Turnbull.
